KANNAPOLIS ó David Murdock continues to collect one-of-a-kind scientific instruments for the Core Lab at the N.C. Research Campus.
Murdock’s nonprofit charity in Kannapolis, the David H. Murdock Research Institute, has tapped a Massachusetts company to provide cutting-edge lab technology.
Waters Corporation will serve as the primary supplier of instrumentation for the Core Lab, which is owned and operated by the Murdock Research Institute.
The purchase includes the first commercially available mass spectrometer with the ability to analyze ions by their size, shape and charge in addition to mass.
The Waters equipment is the most sophisticated available, Murdock said in a statement.
“This large purchase continues the momentum we’re building as a cutting-edge research facility sought after by some of the nation’s brightest scientists, and positions us well for the future,” he said. The instrumentation will provide state-of-the-art capabilities for researchers as they study nutrition and disease prevention.
Waters, based in Milford, Mass., had revenues of $1.47 billion in 2007 and 5,000 employees.
