More than 130 people have signed up to participate in Big Sweep Saturday morning.
But organizers say there are tons of trash waiting on the shores of High Rock Lake and there is plenty of work for more volunteers.
Mike Lambert, organizer of the annual effort to clean waterways, said Thursday the weather forecast calls for sunny skies with temperatures in the mid-70s.
“It will be good weather to pick up trash,” Lambert said.
All of the participants will meet at 9 a.m. Saturday at the entrance to Dan Nicholas Park on Bringle Ferry Road. Participants are asked to wear old clothes, heavy shoes and bring bug spray and snacks if desired.
Trash bags and gloves will be provided, and Big Sweep organizers will collect and remove the filled bags. The effort will conclude around 1 p.m.
Big Sweep volunteers will target four areas of the lake.
Statewide, thousands of volunteers will participate in the annual effort to clean the state’s waterways.
