The names of the runners-up in the high school division of the Service Above Self awards were omitted from Thursday’s article in the Salisbury Post.
Service Above Self, which is sponsored by Rowan Rotary and the Rowan County United Way, honors local students who have helped others.
Students were recognized Tuesday at a ceremony at Catawba College.
Ebony Rivers, a Salisbury High School student, was the first runner-up in the high school individual category.
As a certified youth trainer against tobacco use, Rivers educates young people about the dangers of tobacco. She coordinates community and school events for the Youth in Action Against Tobacco Council, which is part of the Rowan County Health Department.
Rivers won $100 and a medal. The school or organization that nominated her will get a $50 prize.
Whitney Corriher, a West Rowan High School student, earned the second runner-up spot.
Corriher volunteers at Sacred Heart School, where she helps the teachers and provides individual attention to students. She assists kindergarten through fifth-grade students. When public school is canceled, she helps out all day.
Corriher won $50 and a medal. The school or organization that nominated her will get a $25 prize.
