A Monroe man has been charged in the robbery of First Bank on N.C. 49 in Mount Pleasant Thursday.
The Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office says Odell Walker, Jr, 45, of 2725 Thornburg Court, Monroe, has been charged with robbing another bank in Belmont and is a suspect in a robbery in Oakboro.
On Thursday, Cabarrus sheriff’s deputies responded to a bank alarm at First Bank, 8252 N.C. 49, Mount Pleasant. The man was gone, but witnesses described him as a black man, 6 foot 5 inches tall and weighing 250 to 275 pounds. After getting cash, the man drove away in a gray Chevrolet SUV with no license plate.
Detectives worked with the FBI to investigate. Details of the robbery led them to determine it was related to previous robberies in Oakboro.
Cabarrus investigators got a break after Belmont and Charlotte-Mecklenburg police charged Walker with robbing a bank in Belmont.
Evidence from this robbery linked Walker to the First Bank robbery in Mount Pleasant, Cabarrus sheriff’s officials said in a press release.
Further investigation is ongoing between the agencies and the FBI.
