Meals on Wheels of Rowan, Inc. has received $5,000 from the Food Lion Charitable Foundation. Meals on Wheels will use the gift to cover the cost of hot, nutritious, noon meals delivered to the homebound of Rowan County.
“We are thrilled to receive this grant. There is an unprecedented need for this service,” said Rita Sims, executive director. “Each day, more than 215 meals are delivered throughout Rowan County. Currently 73 percent of the recipients are unable to pay the full cost of the service. This grant helps us continue serving the homebound of Rowan County.”
Meals on Wheels is a nonprofit, community-based United Way agency that delivers a noon meal and visits each weekday with homebound area residents. The visits and meals allow the residents to remain independent and in their own homes. Anyone interested in volunteering can call Meals on Wheels at 704-633-0352.
