Staff report
A 28-year-old Mooresville man died Saturday morning in a two-vehicle wreck on N.C. 150.
Presley Lee Flanary of 151 Dorothy Lane died at the wreck scene shortly before 8 a.m.
Trooper C.M. Agner of the N.C. Highway Patrol said Flanary was driving a 1999 Saturn west on N.C. 150. A short distance west of Bradshaw Road, Flanary’s vehicle crossed the center line and struck an oncoming 2006 Mercury Milan driven by Chastity Anne McIntyre, 46, of 120 Grants Creek Road.
McIntyre was taken to Lake Norman Medical Center, evaluated and transferred to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
McIntyre was in fair condition at CMC Saturday night, according to a hospital spokesman.
Agner said Flanary’s vehicle was almost sideways when it collided with the McIntyre vehicle.
He found no indication that Flanary’s vehicle had run off the road before the collision or was speeding.
There were no witnesses.
The accident blocked N.C. 150 with the West Rowan Volunteer Fire Department, Rowan County Rescue Squad and Rowan Sheriff’s Office assisting at the scene and with traffic.
The death brings the number of fatalities in Rowan County for the year to at least 32, with 28 in the county and four in the city limits of Salisbury. Last year, the Highway Patrol investigated 24 accidents on the county.
Last week, a district Highway Patrol official noted that most of the county fatalities occurred when one vehicle crosses the center line and strikes another.
First Sgt. B.E. Hower called it an unusual trend, saying most highway deaths involve excessive speed.
