Man charged with DWI in fatal crash Kannapolis woman dies, husband in serious condition after accident

KANNAPOLIS ó Police say an impaired driver caused a Friday morning wreck that killed a woman and seriously injured her husband a short distance from their West C Street home.
Ruth Floyd Blockover of 1302 W. C St. died in the crash, and her husband, Ira Von Blockover, was listed in serious condition Friday night at Carolinas Medical Center-Northeast. He suffered a collapsed and bruised left lung, a sternal fracture and broken ribs on the left and right sides.
The accident occurred at 11:12 a.m. on West C Street near Wayne Avenue.
Kannapolis Police charged Johnny Joe Sain, 48, of 275 Fry St., China Grove, with driving while impaired, involuntary manslaughter, felonious serious injury by vehicle, drinking beer/wine while driving and driving left of center.
He was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under $250,000 bond.
His first appearance will be in Rowan County District Court on Monday morning.
Sain consented to giving a sample of his blood for analysis.
Kannapolis Police Officer E.B. Ashworth investigated.
Sain was driving a 2002 Mini Cooper.
