Local NAACP to hold Harvest Banquet and Scholarship Celebration

The local branch of the NAACP will hold its 14th Annual Harvest Banquet and Scholarship Celebration at 6 tonight at the Holiday Inn.
The Rev. Dr. Grant Harrison, pastor of Soldiers Memorial AME Zion Church, will speak on “Power, Justice, Freedom, Vote: Past to Present.”
Harrison received a master’s degree in musicology from Howard University and served churches in Washington, D.C., and North Carolina, before being called into ministry. He earned masters and doctor of divinity degrees from Hood Theological Seminary.
Music for the banquet will be provided by Curtis Dean and Moments Notice. Summer Martin will represent the youth. Dr. Bryant Norman Jr., branch president, will preside.
The event raises funds for the branch’s activities and scholarships. Last May, it funded 16 scholarships and incentive awards.
Corporate sponsors are Food Lion, Rowan Regional Medical Center and the Salisbury Post.
