Lightning sparks fire that destoys Concord home

CONCORD ó A lightning strike is the likely cause of a fire that destroyed a house on Winners Circle.
Severe storms spread across the city of Concord around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Concord firefighters went to the house at 3016 Winners Circle S.W. at 6:46 p.m. and found heavy fire coming from the attic.
Residents reported hearing a loud noise followed by a smoke alarm sounding. Two residents and two pets escaped without injury.
Damage estimates are well over $100,000. Nine units and 30 firefighters were dispatched.
The storm also caused property damage and power outages and downed trees and power lines. Concord Department of Fire and Life Safety, Concord utilities and Duke Power responded to numerous calls. No injuries were reported.
