Libraries accepting food for fines to feed the hungry

In an effort to stock up the local food banks during these tough economic times, Cabarrus County library patrons may pay overdue fines with food items from Dec. 1 through Dec. 15.
Patrons can return long-overdue items and pay the maximum fine of $4 with two nonperishable food items. A donation of a single food item will have a maximum value of $2 in fines.
The Food for Fines event applies to fines only. Patrons may not pay for lost, nonreturned, or damaged library materials with food items.
Even those who don’t have library fines are encouraged to bring canned goods to donate to local food banks.
Donated food items must be nonperishable, have original labels and packaging, and not be out of date. No perishable food items will be accepted.
Patrons can contribute food for fines at any of the four library branches in Concord, Kannapolis, Mount Pleasant or Harrisburg. For more information or to find the closest library branch, call 704-920-2050 or log on to www.cabarruscounty.us/library.
