Kissell solution for education goes down the wrong path
This past week Larry Kissell told us that Robin Hayes isn’t doing enough for teachers’ unions. Kissell’s plan: more federal control (through federal funding) and lower standards for students and teachers.
You’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who doesn’t think that No Child Left Behind needs some changes, but to take responsibility and control away from communities for more federal funds would not be in the best interest of local schools.
We need higher standards, we need to offer the best instructors wages that are competitive, we need to make learning a life-long endeavor and we need to make it a community-based effort ó not one that’s centrally controlled by Washington bureaucrats and special-interests.
In the coming primaries and in November, it’s important for voters to choose leaders that will inspire all of us to expect more from ourselves for the future’s sake.
As Kissell knows all too well, the global economy is a tough place that doesn’t grade on a curve.
