Law enforcement needs help in solving shooting of East Spencer man

EAST SPENCER ó Authorities are asking for the public’s help in solving the shooting death of Ahmad Rashad “Red” Bognuda.
On Oct. 11, the East Spencer Police Department and the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of gunshots fired in the 300 block of Geroid Street. They found Bognuda, 30, with multiple gunshot wounds. He was treated at the scene and pronounced dead at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
East Spencer asked the State Bureau of Investigation to assist in the case. Police Chief Ronald Hines said Thursday investigators have no leads so far.”Nothing at this point,” he said. “It’s still an intense investigation.”
Records show Bognuda had a lengthy arrest record that dates back at least 13 years.
In May 1995, Bognuda was convicted of misdemeanor simple assault. He spent 45 days in the N.C. Department of Correction.
In June 1995, he received a 30-day sentence for a misdemeanor simple assault conviction.
In July of the same year, he was convicted of felony assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill. He was sentenced to just more than two years. He was given credit for 80 days in jail.
In July 1998, Bognuda was convicted of misdemeanor assault on a government official. He was jailed for 75 days.
Bognuda was convicted in February 2004 of misdemeanor simple affray and was sentenced to 30 days in jail.
He received a prayer for judgment continued in October 2004 for driving while license revoked. Court records show Bognuda pleaded guilty.
Two years later, he was found guilty of driving while license revoked. He was sentenced to 28 days in jail.
Bognuda was also convicted of probation violations, trespassing, injury to personal property and resisting a public officer.
