Staff report
Fire heavily damaged a double-wide mobile home in the Franklin community Monday night.
Food left unattended on the stove started the fire, which spread through the kitchen area.
Thirty or more firefighters from Franklin, Ellis Cross Country and Locke Volunteer fire departments responded to 435 Old Wood Lane off Cauble Road shortly before 8 p.m.
The Rowan Rescue Squad also responded.
The call to the county’s E-911 system reported a kitchen fire.
Although fire was showing in the kitchen/dining room area when firefighters arrived, they were able to get a quick knockdown.
John Thomason, Franklin chief, said the fire damage was confined to the kitchen. Other areas of the home sustained some water and smoke damage.
Thomason and Jeff Whitley, Ellis Cross Country chief, said the homeowner, whose name was not immediately available, indicated he plans to repair the home.
The man and his wife planned to spend the night at a local motel. They declined assistance from the American Red Cross.
Firefighters were on the scene until around 10 p.m.
