Kannapolis police seek suspect in bank robbery

Investigators with the Kannapolis Police Department and the FBI are asking for any information regarding a bank robbery Friday morning.
Kannapolis Police responded to the Wachovia Bank at 1501 S. Cannon Blvd. at approximately 9:50 a.m. after an alarm call from the business.
Officers discovered that a man wearing construction-type clothing had entered the bank and demanded money from bank employees. The suspect displayed a handgun.
The suspect is described as a black male standing approximately 5 feet 5 inches to 6 feet tall and weighing about 200 pounds. He was wearing baggy pants, a bulky jacket and a safety vest on the outside of the jacket and a light-colored hard hat. The suspect’s face was covered with some type of cloth covering, possibly a ski mask.
The bank employees complied with the suspect’s demands and gave him an undisclosed amount of money; no one was injured during this incident. The suspect left the bank and was last seen traveling north on South Cannon Boulevard in a newer model blue vehicle.
