A Kannapolis man is in the Rowan County jail after being charged with attempting to strangle a woman, child abuse and assault on a child.
Alvin Dean Joplin, 48, of 8753 Cloverfield Drive was charged Sunday with assault by strangulation after he placed his hands around the throat of Christina Joplin on Saturday, squeezing hard enough to restrict her air supply and causing physical injury to her neck, according to arrest reports.
Joplin was also charged with child abuse after inflicting serious physical injury (multiple contusions and embedded glass on child’s body) to 15-month-old Cortney Joplin, the reports said. He was also charged with assault on a child under the age of 12 for throwing the 15-month-old onto a bed.
