KANNAPOLIS ó In the span of two hours early Wednesday, five men kicked in the doors of three apartments looking for someone they apparently have a quarrel with.
Kannapolis police investigators obtained warrants for multiple charges against the men and released the pictures Wednesday afternoon, hoping the public will help locate the men.
Police said all the men live in Kannapolis now. They are:
– Deshuntae Lomar Barnette, 26, who previously lived at 814 Fisher St., Concord. He faces three counts of first-degree burglary.
– Austin Devon Collins, 20, address not available, who faces three counts of first-degree burglary.
– Deangelo Raymone Collins, 24, address not available, who faces charges of first-degree burglary (three counts), assault by pointing a gun and assault on a female.
– Roddarius Markee Hopper, 21, who has previously lived at 2403 Saguaro Lane, Kannapolis. He faces three counts of first-degree burglary.
– Adrian Antoine Patterson, 32, who has previously lived at 1631 Oakcrest Drive and 908 S. Juniper St., Kannapolis. He faces charges of first-degree burglary (three counts), assault by pointing a gun and possession of a firearm by felon.
Witnesses said the men left the complex in two cars ó a Ford Crown Victoria and a Dodge Intrepid ó before the police arrived.
None of the people living in the apartments “invaded” by the group of men was hurt. Once the men forced their way inside and didn’t find the person they were looking for, they left, Police Detective Sgt. Ken Jackson said.
Investigators do not know exactly why the men were looking for a person who police didn’t want to identify Wednesday, Austin said. He said the residents in each apartment told investigators they didn’t know about any grievance the five suspects had.
According to the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office Web site, three of the men have extensive records of criminal charges or civil contempt citations:
– Barnette has faced charges of possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and cocaine, maintaining a place for drugs and felony possession of cocaine. The drug charges came in 2003, 2005 and 2006. He served time for some, and the result of other charges was not available.
– Hopper has previously been charged with possession and sale of cocaine, first- and second-degree burglary, robbery with a dangerous weapon, second-degree kidnapping and resisting a law enforcement officer.
– Patterson has a list of criminal and civil contempt charges dating back to 2001, including second-degree trespassing, resisting a public officer, assault on a female and multiple cases of not paying child support.
The break-ins began about 2:20 a.m., first at 1732 Clemson Court, then at 1726 Furman Court and, finally, at 1717 Furman Court.
All the apartments are located in the Royal Oaks Garden Apartments.
According to police records, Ericka Cathcart, 23, Mecca Barber, 17, and Shaneka Cathcart, 21, were staying in the first apartment.
The men confronted Tiesha Pharr, 21, and Troy Stewart, 25, in the second apartment and Sherry Carr, 45, in the third.
Records indicated the men assaulted Carr, but Austin said she was not seriously injured. Austin also said people in all three apartments are family or friends.
