Sweltering temperatures and humidity did little to scorch the enthusiasm of this year’s Rowan County Junior Dairy Show exhibitors, their families and the large crowd of spectators.
The Rowan County Junior Dairy Show is still the largest single-county junior dairy show in North Carolina, as this year’s show had 33 exhibitors enter 76 head of dairy cattle.
The show is annually conducted at the Rowan County Fairgrounds the last week of July or first week of August in conjunction with the Statesville District Dairy Show, which is conducted at the Iredell County Fairgrounds. Rowan County entries account for more than half of the cattle exhibited at the Statesville District Dairy Show.
The Rowan County Junior Dairy Show is operated by the Rowan County Holstein Club, with assistance from Rowan County Cooperative Extension. Holstein Club members actively solicit local businesses for sponsorship money to pay premiums to the exhibitors and operating expenses.
The Holstein Club thanks sponsors and the Rowan County Agriculture and Industrial Fair Association Inc. for sponsoring the rental of the fairgrounds.
