Plans are under way for the 49th annual Holiday Caravan Parade, which will take place Nov. 26. The parade will start at 2 p.m. in Spencer and at 3 p.m. in Salisbury.
Produced since 1960 by Rowan Business Alliance with the Spencer Jaycees and hundreds of other volunteers, the Holiday Caravan Parade traditionally marks the beginning of the holiday season. Known regionally as “The Carolinas’ Loveliest and Liveliest parade,” the Holiday Caravan Parade attracts up to 30,000 spectators, depending on weather conditions.
Entry applications for the parade are now being accepted at the Holiday Caravan Parade office located at 1910 W. Jake Alexander Blvd, Suite 203 of the Rowan Business Alliance building in Manning Park. The deadline for entries to get in the parade is Friday, Nov. 7 at 5 p.m.
The entry fee for most noncommercial units is $75. A limited number of professional floats are available to rent at $595 each.
Businesses or individuals may sponsor special attractions, such as Shriner’s units, for a fee ranging from $250 to $800 each.
A trophy and awards sponsor is currently needed for $750. Anyone can help defray the more than $50,000 in parade costs by being a $50 parade patron.
Front row reserved seats still are available in Salisbury and Spencer for $4 each while quantities last. Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The mailing address for the Holiday Caravan Parade is P.O. Box 1907, Salisbury, NC 28145-1907.
