A free workshop dealing with how nonprofit organizations can take advantage of technology to improve and streamline their operations will be held Feb. 5, a Thursday, at the Rowan Business Alliance conference center, 1910 W. Jake Alexander Blvd.
Sponsored by the Blanche & Julian Robertson Family Foundation, the workshop will be conducted by Paula Jones, director of technology and administration at the N.C. Center for Nonprofits in Raleigh. The workshop will run 8:30 a.m. to noon.
The center receives support from the foundation, which enables all Rowan County nonprofit organizations to attend the workshop free of charge. It is requested that all attendees contact the center and register.

The workshop is geared to those persons who are new to technology tools as well as experienced staff looking for fresh ideas, tips and resources.
Jones brings an experienced perspective to her workshop presentation. She has more than seven years experience in Web site development, database management and network administration. She serves as an organizer for Research Triangle NetTuesday and Triangle 501 Tech Club.
In describing the workshop, Jones said attendees will “gain a better understanding of the total cost of owning technology and how it can help accomplish everyday tasks. We’ll explore how technology enhances outreach, boosts fundraising activities and expands contacts to stakeholders and donors.
“We’ll review the range of technology tools and practices from the traditional, like Web sites, to emerging Web 2.0 applications, such as blogs, widgets and social networking. You’ll get hands-on advice and a Q&A session to ensure that you leave ready to implement what you’ve learned.”
The N.C. Center was created in 1990 with ideas from 2,153 nonprofit and foundation leaders from across the state. Now 1,600 organizations in all 100 counties are members. Its mission is to serve, promote and represent the nonprofit sector and strengthen nonprofits’ effectiveness as they improve North Carolina’s quality of life.
