Food Lion has created an online game in time for Thanksgiving that allows players to shoot cranberry sauce at turkeys to win points and collect coupons.
According to a report in Supermarket News, the “Cranberry Cannon Game” encourages interaction with Food Lion’s private-label products.
You can play at www.foodlion.com. Once you complete a game, players are offered coupons for $1 off Food Lion frozen vegetables, a 12-pack of Canada Dry or 7-Up soft drinks; and Mr. and Mrs. T’s Bloody Mary Mix.
Supermarket News also reported Food Lion had a “Matching Game” that encouraged shoppers to learn the names of Food Lion’s brands. The game had 12 “cards” that players clicked to reveal a Food Lion brand. Then you’d flip another card to try to reveal a match.
Once all matches were found, a $1 print-at-home coupon for a private label product was offered.
The report said the game started as a training program for employees, but Food Lion decided to use it on the consumer side to help promote its private labels.
