Staff report
Two fire departments in the 6th District will get federal grants, U.S. Rep Howard Coble said.
Coble, who represents North Carolina’s 6th Congressional District, said the Robbins Volunteer Fire Department and the Granite Quarry Fire Department have been approved for grants from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
Coble said both fire squads will get funding from the fiscal year 2007 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. The Robbins Volunteer Fire Department will receive $85,114, while the Granite Quarry Fire Department is in line to receive $47,287.
Coble said both grants will be used for operations and safety.
“We are committed to making sure that our first responders have the necessary equipment and training to serve our communities,” he said.
“The Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program is committed to providing the needed funding, and I urge all 6th District fire departments to take advantage of this program in 2008.”
