The Rowan County Board of Commissioners will consider financing for a new Social Services facility and look at dedicating a new EMS station during its meeting Monday.
The board will also appoint a new Register of Deeds to serve until December 2010. Bobbie Earnhardt is retiring effective Dec. 1.
Under state law, commissioners are required to appoint the selection of the Democratic Executive Committee, which has selected John Brindle. He is a former sheriff’s deputy and has worked in the Register of Deeds office for four years.
Commissioners will also set the salary for Brindle in his new job. Currently, he makes $35,000 a year while his retiring boss makes $64,339.
The county’s salary schedule for the position is $56,000 to $89,000.
Also, Frank Thomason, emergency services director, is recommending dedicating the county’s new EMS Station at East Council and North Shaver streets to Charles Luther Ridenhour, who died in 2001.
At the age of 72, Ridenhour was an employee of the county’s EMS. For decades he was a volunteer with the Ellis Cross County Fire Department and was a member of the Rowan County Rescue Squad.
In other business, commissioners are scheduled to:
– Vote on borrowing $5.1 million to pay for an addition and renovation of the mental health section of the Health Services Building on Faith Road to consolidate all Social Services programs.
The Finance Department sought bids from 10 banks but received only three. RCB Bank offered the lowest rate on the 10-year loan, at 3.54 percent.
– Adopt a proclamation honoring veterans on Veterans Day.
– Consider budget amendments and appointments to various boards.
The Rowan County Board of Commissioners meets at 4 p.m. Monday at the County Administration Building, 130 W. Innes St.
