6-Up Program
One hundred rising middle school students in Rowan County recently attended a four-week program to help them prepare for their transition to middle school.
A grant from area businesses and foundations funded the program.
Students who will be attending Knox, North Rowan and Southeast middle schools participated in an intense academic program geared toward enhancing their math, language arts, science and social studies skills.
In an effort to alleviate bullying and enhance social skills, the students were also taught strategies for conflict resolution, etiquette for social situations, study skills and team building.
Teachers at each site created programs and activities geared towards the needs of each particular group of students. Those who completing the program were rewarded with a trip to Carowinds.
