Education: Six employed at Trinity Oaks Retirement Community receive scholarships

Six employees of Salisbury’s Trinity Oaks Retirement Community have been named Trinity Oaks Scholarship winners for the 2008-2009 school year.
A scholarship includes $500 per semester for tuition and fees, and an additional $100 per semester for books. Winners include:
– K-la Dwiggins, dining services manager. A graduate of West Rowan High School, she is training as a dental assistant at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College.
– Adis Ziga, a cook. Originally from Bosnia, he is pursuing a degree in business administration at Catawba College.
– Sharonda Nixon, wait staff. She is a junior criminal justice major at Livingstone College, where she is a cheerleader and an active member of the Student Government Association.
– Shannon Harris, wait staff. Currently working on an associate of arts degree at RCCC, she plans to transfer to a college or university with an accredited physical therapy program.
– Shanae Ellis, wait staff. Mother of two, she is enrolled in RCCC’s nursing program.
– Margaret Payton, wait staff. Mother of five, she is enrolled in RCCC’s nursing program.
Scholarship committee members include Mary Hart, Hope Davis, Carolyn Leslie, Horace Rhyne and J.C. Medlin, all residents at Trinity Oaks. Since the scholarship program’s inception in 2003, 26 scholarships have been awarded.
