Anita K. Overstreet, a student at East Rowan High School, has been selected to attend the AMVETS Spirit of America Youth Leadership Conference at Freedoms Foundation in Valley Forge, Pa., Nov. 6-9.
Overstreet is one of 90 youths from across the country AMVETS is sending to the event. She was selected based on her essay on Americanism and on displaying excellent leadership and academic ability.
During the four-day program, she will participate in workshops, hear from experts in business, government and academia and tour historic Philadelphia. The experience is designed to teach students the ideals and principles upon which the United States was founded.
AMVETS partnered with Freedoms Foundation in 1988 to introduce young people to the country’s historic beginnings.
