Organizers are planning for about 200 people at “Education Challenge: A Community Workshop,” set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Salisbury Civic Center.
The session follows up on the Feb. 27 Education Summit that drew nearly 1,000 people to Keppel Auditorium.
Both events are sponsored by Rowan Partners for Education, an independent nonprofit group focused on improving public education.
Workshop participants will see one of the school system’s newest pieces of technology in action ó an interactive whiteboard that allows the discussion leader to post a question and receive responses.
“It will blow your mind seeing this thing in action,” said Louise Wooten, executive director of Rowan Partners for Education.
Wooten said Jeff Smith, chair of the partnership’s board, will give the gathering a quick overview of material covered by Dr. Willard Daggett at the summit ó which focused on 21st century job skills ó and new information. Participants will break into groups of 12 and work with facilitators to come up with suggestions on what needs to change in the schools and how that should happen.
“We’ll have a lot going on in an hour and a half,” Wooten said.
The workshop will run from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Salisbury Civic Center, 315 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave.
