Katharine Bouser of Southern Pines has been elected to Phi Beta Kappa, the nation’s highest undergraduate honor society, at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
A senior linguistics and French major, she is scheduled to graduate in May 2009 and plans to attend graduate school to study speech pathology.
She is the daughter of former Salisbury residents Steve and Brenda Bouser, now of Southern Pines.
Junior class president
Tremayne Bryan Smith, son of Patricia Watkins, has been elected junior class president at East Carolina University.
A graduate of West Rowan High School, his duties include collaborating with the executive cabinet, meeting with the executive vice president and representing 4,415 juniors at East Carolina.Smith is majoring in music education and political science.
