Hurley Good Citizens
Hurley Elementary School recently recognized the following students as April Good Citizens:
Pre-kindergarten: Kathy Trejo-Garduno.
Kindergarten: Madeline Cason, Keyonda Horne, Levontae Jacobs, Kailah Johnson, Elijah Oakley and Imani Rivers.
First grade: Jeremy Geter, Eric Houck, Caroline Kruger, Tiffany Long, Saylor Nicholson and Diamond Osborne.
Second grade: Katie Ferguson, Dayunte Kelly, Allie Luffman, Desire Maxwell and Sydney Taylor.
Third grade: Graham Bowes, Emma Cooler, Lizette Hernandez and Megan Webb.
Fourth grade: Morgan Hester, Caitlyn McDonnell, Kristen McNabb, Devin Prowker and Audreana Roberson.
Fifth grade: Nicole Flowe, Emily Goddard, Baylie Hain and Brandon Ralston.
Pfeiffer recognition
Two area students were among those recognized for high achievements in academics, service engagement and leadership during Pfeiffer University’s May 10 commencement ceremony.
Blake Martin of Albemarle, who earned a degree in history with a communications minor, received the Pearl Walton Fisher Citizenship Trophy for scholastic achievement, good character and service above self. The honor is given to a graduating student with an outstanding citizenship record, as determined by a vote of the faculty. The Citizenship Trophy is given to honor the late J.E. and Pearl Walton Fisher.
Noah Melton of Granite Quarry, who earned a music education degree, was recognized during the ceremony for participation in the Bonner Leader program. The program is a national service scholarship initiative funded by the Bonner Foundation. The scholarship honors students who have a strong commitment to service and is designed to enhance the educational experience by encouraging students to engage in ongoing efforts within the local community.
Bostian Good Citizens
Bostian Elementary School recently recognized the following students as April Good Citizens:
Kindergarten: Matthew Correll, Logan Rogers, Chance Rocha, Elise Bost, Abraham Hernandez, Cameron Sloop, Trevor Cross, Riley Flowe, Payton Jeffers, Nathaniel Kimball and Jadon Vernon.
First grade: Carter Rodgers, Brynne Hardman, Quentin Smith, Kelsie Ritchie, Bradley Smith, Austin Smith and Ashley Davis.
Second grade: Michelle Henning, Sawyer Smallwood, Will Stone, Terry Coleman, Jaren Hawthorn and Chase Cook.
Third grade: Taylor Jenkins, Coraima Ortiz, Dalton Wall, Sarah Burris and Kayla Dunaway.
Fourth grade: Caroline Comer, Brandon Mock, Kodie Miller and Kaitlyn Shuffler.
Fifth grade: Jesse Sartain, Raven Bradshaw, Cody Brown and Brooke Morris.
Ruritan scholarships
The Millbridge Ruritan Club awarded four $750 scholarships to high school seniors.
Recipients are Lee Hinson and Olivia Scott from West Rowan High School and Carrie Hoffner and Holden White from South Rowan High School.
Hinson and Hoffner plan to attend N.C. State University; Scott, N.C. Central University; and White, the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
A fifth scholarship valued at $600 was awarded under the Ruritan National Foundation’s “Double Your Dollar Grant Program.” It went to Amber Himes of Salisbury, a student at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Knollwood Citizens
Knollwood Elementary School recently recognized the following students for exhibiting the character traits of cooperation and fairness as May Good Citizens:
Kindergarten: Rachel Hall, Erika Romera Mora, Yaleni Alcantara, Lucy Cardona, Dalton Trembley, Anthony Boucher, Gabriela Salazar, Galylea Figueroa, Selvedin Muskic, Erin Simerson, Madison Smith and Jacob Ramirez.
First grade: Trent Sprinkles, C.J. Redwine, Ada Wong, Brian Pina, Alex Jaimes, Jorge Lopez, Joe Jones, Tim Iferika, Savannah Bare and Antoni Pacheco.
Second grade: Julia Stockwell, Duke McDaniels, Noah Mullis, Patience Eller, Alexander Torrence, Scott Graham, Arianna Witherspoon, Tallya Rhodes, Caressa Mounts, Ashley Molina, Katie Casey, Onnah Houghton, Rebekah Lippard and Brooke Sechler.

Amanda G. Bosch, director of the Curriculum Materials Center in Catawba College’s Department of Teacher Education, hosted the recent N.C. Curriculum Materials Center directors on Catawba’s campus.
Bosch is president of the organization made up of curriculum materials center directors from teacher education departments in North Carolina.
Discussions centered on acquisitions and collection management, as well as electronic sources.
