Rowan-Cabarrus Community College’s board of trustees approved the hiring of Barbara L. Hall as director of the college’s Small Business Center.
Hall currently is program developer for Central Piedmont Community College’s Institute for Entrepreneurship.
She has also been a self-employed real estate agent with Coldwell Banker United, assistant to district manager at Land America OneStop, an appraisal reviewer with Atlantic Assurance and director of alumni relations for the College of Business at Pennsylvania State University.
She graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University with a double major in journalism and speech communications earned a master’s degree in telecommunications from Indiana State University.

Dr. Sanford Silverburg, professor of political science in the Department of History and Politics at Catawba College, recently participated in an internal conference organized by the Middle East Studies Program at Santa Barbara City College in Santa Barbara, Calif.
The conference was titled “Looking to the Future: New Paradigms and Perspective on the Middle East.” Silverburg participated on a panel on “Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Annapolis and Beyond.”
A member of Catawba College’s faculty since 1970, Silverburg is a specialist in international relations and international law as well as the government and politics of the Middle East. He has published and lectured internationally, speaking to both academic and community groups, and has broad experience with government and military affairs.
Hannold inducted
Gregory M. Hannold was recently inducted into the Beta Mu Chapter of the Criminal Justice National Honor Society at Methodist University in Fayetteville.
Hannold is currently pursuing a master’s degree at Methodist University. He is an honor graduate of Rowan-Cabarrus Community College and a cum laude graduate of Catawba College with a BBA in administration of justice.
He has been in law enforcement for 15 years and is currently a detective with the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office.
He is the son of Richard and Nancy Hannold of Salisbury. He and his wife, the former Janella Boger, live in Salisbury and have two children, Sadie and Cody.
