Duncan earns Eagle Scout

Andrew Marshall Duncan, 18, will receive his Eagle Scout Award today at St. James Lutheran Church, Rockwell.
He is a member of Troop 317, sponsored by Christiana Lutheran Church, Granite Quarry. Jeff Fleming is Scoutmaster.
Duncan earned 27 merit badges and is a member of the Order of the Arrow. He has been senior patrol leader, along with other leadership positions. He has worked at Camp Barnhardt and attended the 2005 National Scout Jamboree. He also went to Philmont National Scout Ranch in New Mexico in 2006.
He is the son of Tom and Betty Duncan, a 2008 graduate of East Rowan High School and a NCHSAA Scholar Athlete. He was in the National Honor Society and was a member of the swim team. He will attend N.C. State University.
For his Eagle project, he and other Boy Scouts landscaped a corner in downtown Rockwell and coordinated the placement of a time capsule and marker at the base of the St. James Lutheran Church flagpole as part of its 100th anniversary.
