Driver of mo-ped hit by truck

ROCKWELL ó The driver of a mo-ped was conscious and talking after being hit by a truck Friday night.
The accident occurred around 8 p.m. on N.C. 152 near the entrance to Rockwell Farms.
Mike Zimmerman, chief of the Bostian Heights Fire Department, said the man, estimated to be in his mid-40s, was thrown from the mo-ped and landed in the middle of N.C. 152. He was wearing a helmet.
Initially, emergency personnel tried to get a medical helicopter to the scene, but none were flying because of the weather.
The Rowan EMS transported the man to Carolinas Medical Center ó NorthEast.
Zimmerman said there were apparently no witnesses to the accident, but the victim told firefighters and officers he was hit by a truck, which left the scene.
Efforts to reach the N.C. Highway Patrol officer investigating were unsuccessful.
