DENTON ó A physician assistant with a practice in Denton has voluntarily surrendered his license to practice medicine to the North Carolina Medical Board.
Phillip Barton Land, of 4108 Cascade Drive, Greensboro, surrendered his license in a May 12 letter to the board. Land, of the Denton Medical Center, specialized in family practice.
In the letter, Land gives up his right to “perform medical acts, tasks, and functions as a physician assistant.” Land goes on to write that he acknowledges he can no longer give medical advice or treatment, prescribe drugs or perform other functions of a physician assistant.
The letter does not give the reason for Land’s surrender of his license, but it does indicate he could face some sort of sanction.
“I understand that the surrender of my license does not preclude the Board from bringing charges against me at a later date,” he writes.
Land formerly worked under Dr. Thomas Edmund Brewer Jr. at Denton Medical Practice. The Medical Board revoked Brewer’s license to practice medicine in October for prescribing medicine illegally in 2006, according to information provided by the board last year.
At the time, Land said he had bought Denton Medical Center from Brewer in April 2007, while Brewer was operating under a temporary license following several Medical Board disciplinary actions and two voluntary surrenders of his license.
Land graduated from Methodist College Medical School in 1999.
