The public is encouraged to attend the unveiling of Davie County’s latest N.C. historic highway marker at 10 a.m. in Cooleemee on May 17. It honors prominent state historian Hugh T. Lefler.
The location of the marker was changed from Greasy Corner to Cooleemee after the local history association discovered an error in the sign’s text and called Raleigh. It has now been installed on N.C. Hwy. 801 at the intersection of Watts Street.
Parking will be in front of the old cotton mill. A public program will follow at Liberty United Methodist Church at 10:45 a.m.
