Concord Police officers received an anonymous tip Wednesday afternoon that one of Concord’s Most Wanted for a December 2007 second-degree rape was standing near the intersection of Academy Avenue and Duval Street.
Officers responded around 1:30 p.m. and chased Lamont Eugene Diaz, 32, on foot a short distance before catching him. He had eluded police in five previous attempts to arrest him while fleeing in a car or on foot since the summer of 2006 when failing to appear on other cases. Diaz was also in arrears for child support payments.
Diaz was charged with the following and booked into the Cabarrus County Jail: second-degree rape; felony speeding to elude arrest; resist, obstruct and delay a police officer; driving while license revoked; careless and reckless driving; four counts of nonsupport of child.
Bond was set at $108,000 plus a $3,600 cash bond for the child support cases. His first appearance on the rape charge is scheduled for Oct. 6.
