CONCORD ó A Concord firefighter has been charged with rape and a sexual offense stemming from a March incident in Rowan County.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office charged Robert Lee Hagy, 27, of 2730 Heidelberg, Concord, with second-degree rape and second-degree sexual offense.
According to Sheriff’s Office reports, Hagy knew the victim. The incident occurred at her home March 19 at 1 a.m.
Reports said the victim talked to the suspect and “he tried to make advances toward her,” Sheriff’s Office Capt. John Sifford said. At some point that morning, he added, “a sex act occurred.”
The Concord Fire and Life Safety Department issued a press release Wednesday evening saying that Hagy, who has been a Concord firefighter for three years, would be placed on administrative leave without pay pending the outcome of the investigation. “It is unfortunate when a member of the city is arrested for any crime,” Concord Fire Chief Randy Holloway said in the release. “We believe high ethical standards by our firefighters are critical to making our community safe and adherence to these standards is mandatory. At this time, we are investigating this case and will forward more information as it becomes known.”
Hagy has no listed telephone number.
