CONCORD ó Police say they interrupted a man stealing appliances Monday morning from a model home in a subdivision under construction.
Anthony Lamonte Davis, 34, of 1430 Rheo Court, faces charges of felony breaking and entering, felony larceny, injury to real property and driving while license revoked. He was placed in the Cabarrus County jail under $100,000 bond.
Responding to a burglar alarm around 12:35 a.m. at 3590 Courage Court in the Glen Grove subdivision in southern Concord, a Concord Police officer saw a white Dodge van leaving the area. A second officer stopped the van on Pitts School Road.
Officers determined the driver, Davis, had just fled the model home where the burglar alarm had been activated, a police department release said. The home had been broken into and suspects were in the process of stealing appliances.
A refrigerator was on the front porch, while a microwave and a dishwasher had been disconnected and positioned in the home for quick removal, police said. The water line connecting the missing refrigerator had been ripped and water was flooding the floor before officers stopped it.
A shoe print from the scene matched the shoe Davis was wearing, police said. Police said Davis committed similar burglaries at new home construction sites in Concord during December 2006. Officers located a second vehicle in the Glen Grove subdivision linked to Davis. Police believe more than one person was committing the crime, but have not identified another suspect.
Officers went to Davis’ house and located more dishwashers, microwaves, refrigerators and power tools. Some of the items had been stolen from other locations. Much of that property was taken into evidence.
Concord police said that thieves target areas with housing construction for quick larcenies of home appliances and construction tools left on site by contractors.
