CONCORD ó U.S. Rep. Robin Hayes, who represents the 8th Congressional District, will present the city of Concord grant funding today for Concord Regional Airport projects including runway and taxiway improvements and land purchase, a press release issued by Hayes’ office said.
Concord Regional Airport is one of the busiest general aviation airports in the country, has an approximate $110 million impact on Cabarrus County’s economy each year and accounts for more than 450 new jobs annually.
Continued improvements include a runway extension, which increased the runway length from 5,500 feet to 7,400 feet. This accommodates the FAA standard of a 50-foot-wide taxiway. The remaining portion of the runway is only 35 feet wide. The older section must be updated to meet FAA standards.
Portions of this grant will be used for that purpose. The cost to complete the project is $3.5 million, with the city contributing approximately $1.15 million.
Hayes is a Republican from Concord.
