China Grove closing in on finding new town manager

CHINA GROVE ó Aldermen will interview the final candidate for the town manager’s job this evening.
The board of aldermen has scheduled a special session prior to the regular board meeting. The board will interview Bill Pless, the current interim town manager. Pless previously acknowledged that he is one of three finalist.
F.E. Isenhour, the former Landis town administrator, is also a finalist. Isenhour was fired by the Landis Board of Alderman in January 2004, a month after newly elected officials took office.
The special session will be at 5:45 p.m. and will be closed.
Officials have not said when they expect to make a decision.
The regular board meeting begins at 7 p.m.
Items on the agenda include a public hearing on adopting the town’s code of ordinances. The various ordinances have been put together in one book.
Other items on the agenda include:
– Consider a request to temporarily close Main Street for the annual 5 K run June 13.
– Consider approval of an audit contract with Sherrill & Smith for the current fiscal year.
– Hear a request from the town’s park advisory board regarding developing a Mill Village park on the south end of town.
– Hear an update on the proposals to repair and renovate the town’s public safety building on North Main Street.
