HARRISBURG ó A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools teacher who lives in Cabarrus County has been charged with four counts of sexual activities with a student.
Amanda Maria Athey, 27, of 4051 Center Place Drive, Harrisburg turned herself in to the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
She is charged with three counts of indecent liberties between a teacher and a student and one count of sexual activity between a teacher and a student.
She was placed under a $4,000 bond.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools officials had suspended Athey earlier from her job as an English teacher at Hopewell High School. The suspension came after the father of a 16-year-old female student provided school system officials with copies of taped phone messages and e-mails between his daughter and Athey.
The investigation involved the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Law Enforcement Division, the Cornelius Police Department and the Cabarrus Sheriff’s Office.
