The Rowan-Cabarrus Community College Board of Trustees will seek approval from the North Carolina Community College System to name Jarrett “Jerry” T. Chandler Jr., acting president of the college, effective June 1.
Chandler is RCCCís vice president of administration, human resources and advancement. His appointment as acting president would continue until the collegeís ongoing presidential search concludes and the new president starts work at RCCC. According to the boardís announcement, made at its April 28 meeting, trustees do not anticipate the acting president appointment to run beyond Sept. 30.
Chandler has served RCCC more than 30 years as a faculty member and administrative leader. He has been a member of the collegeís senior leadership team for more than 27 years.
His administrative experience includes leadership at the academic program, departmental and division levels and in virtually every division of the college, including academic programs, administrative and support services, finance and fiscal operations, facilities, technical services, student services, and evening operations. He has long been responsible for external relations in the collegeís North Campus region, and served as chairman of the board for both the Rowan County Chamber of Commerce and the United Way of Rowan County. He has assisted the president with governance and fundraising for most of his career, serving for more than 13 years as executive director of the RCCC Foundation.
Chandler holds a bachelorís degree in radiologic technology from Alderson Broaddus College in West Virginia, a masterís degree in health sciences education and evaluation from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and a doctoral degree in adult and community education and administration from North Carolina State University.
The RCCC Board of Trustees is interviewing five finalists for the job of college president. The five candidates are visiting RCCC’s North and South campuses and participating in meet and greet sessions with faculty and staff members.
ěThe board will complete the interview process on April 30 and will select at least three candidates to be submitted for approval by the N.C. Community College System,î reported Pat Fulcher, RCCC trustee and chair of the presidential search committee. ěOnce approval is received, the board will make a final selection and make an offer.î
In April 2007, RCCC President Richard Brownell announced his plans to retire in June 2008. Brownell has led the college as president for more than 30 years. The RCCC board is working with National Search and Education Associates of Cary as a search consultant.
