Candidate forum set Oct. 23

Catawba College, the Salisbury Post and the Rowan County Chamber of Commerce will present candidates for the N.C. General Assembly and the Rowan County Board of Commissioners in a forum on Thursday, Oct. 23, in Hedrick Little Theatre in the Robertson College-Community Center.The session is a special edition of the Catawba College Community Forum.
Candidates for the State House and State Senate races will speak from 6 to 7:15 p.m., followed by a short break. County commission candidates will take the stage from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Dr. Michael Bitzer, associate professor of history and politics, will moderate. Each candidate will get two minutes for opening remarks, followed by questions presented by the moderator.
Participating will be candidates for N.C. Senate District 34, William A. Burnette, Democrat, and Andrew C. Brock, Republican; and N.C. House District 77, Lorene Coates, Democrat, and Ada Fisher, Republican.
All four candidates for the Rowan County Commission have been invited to participate in the second session: Democrats Raymond D. Coltrain and Laura Lyerly, and Republicans Carl Ford and Jim Sides.
