KANNAPOLIS ó The Cabarrus County Department of Social Services says funding is available to help eligible low-income families, elderly adults and adults with disabilities buy fans or window air conditioners, repair an air conditioner, or pay a utility bill in order to keep an air conditioner running.
Families with children under age 18 may be eligible to receive assistance if they are in a crisis situation and have a household income between 150 percent and 200 percent of the federal poverty level. The parent or parents must either be employed or disabled in order to be eligible for assistance.
Adults without children living in the home may be eligible for assistance if they are in a crisis situation and have a household income equal to 150 percent of the poverty level. Individuals and families are considered in crisis if someone has a health condition that puts the person at risk for heat-related illnesses or if an infant or elderly person lives in the home.
To learn if you or someone you know is eligible for this assistance, call the Cabarrus County Department of Social Services at 704-920-1400 or stop by the office at 1303 S. Cannon Blvd.
