cabarrus institutes local burning ban

Cabarrus County will remain under a local burning ban, even though the state burning ban was lifted Wednesday.
The Cabarrus County Fire Marshal has issued a burning ban that prohibits burning within 100 feet of a structure. This local ban is effective in all unincorporated areas of Cabarrus County until further notice.
Any previously issued burning permits are now invalid, and fires should be extinguished immediately. This includes any outdoor burning at a residence. Anyone in violation of the burning ban could receive fines.
A combination of extremely dry conditions, extreme heat and a large well-mixed surface layer has created the potential for explosive growth of fire in the event that a wildfire develops.
Residents should be especially careful with any potential ignition source such as cigarettes or sparks from lawn equipment.
