Hardesty honored for lighthouse work
In ceremonies held recently in Southport, Rick Hardesty of Salisbury was presented the Outer Banks Lighthouse Society’s highest honor for volunteer service, the Founders’ Award.
Hardesty has provided the society with more than 100,000 full-color brochures depicting and describing each of North Carolina’s lighthouses since 1999. Distribution is free to the public at each of the lighthouses.
Bett Padgett, president of the Outer Banks Lighthouse Society, underscored the contribution the brochures make to people ó especially school children ó who visit North Carolina’s lighthouses.
“Without Rick Hardesty, and his company, Rowan Business Forms, neither we nor the state of North Carolina could possibly make these materials available. The demand is simply too overwhelming, and budgets are too restrictive,” she said.
