China Grove Police arrested a Rockwell couple Saturday and charged them with stealing a purse and using the credit cards from the purse to buy gasoline.
Joshua Lee Settlemyer, 23, of 5927 Highway 152, Rockwell, faces two counts of obtaining property by false pretense and charges of misdemeanor larceny and financial card theft.
He is accused of using a Discover Card stolen from Evelene F. Woodard of China Grove and purchasing gasoline on two occasions from Cheeseman’s General Store, 9805 Old Beatty Ford Road, Rockwell.
Settlemyer also is accused of taking Woodard’s pocketbook, valued at $250, and the credit card.
Dana Belk Canterbury, 29, of the same address as Settlemyer, also is charged with obtaining property by false pretense in buying $75 worth of gasoline from Rushco Food Store No. 7 on U.S. 29 North in China Grove.
She also faces charges of misdemeanor larceny for credit card theft (a Visa) and taking Woodard’s purse.
The theft and attempts to use the credit cards occurred last Tuesday. Canterbury and Settlemyer were each placed under $5,000 bond.
China Grove Police Officer D.P. Walther brought the charges.
In another report from the Rowan County Magistrate’s office Saturday, Salisbury Police charged Timothy D. Boyd, 37, with assault inflicting serious bodily injury. He is accused of assaulting Darrell D. Herndon on July 4 and breaking Herndon’s hip.
Boyd’s address was given as the streets of Salisbury. He was placed under $5,000 bond Saturday.
