The county’s 2007 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report is a mix of financial numbers for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2007. It also includes a wide array of other data related to county operations, giving year by year totals for the past 10 years in many categories. Here’s some of the data for the 2007 fiscal year:- Total spending ó $139.6 million ó equates to more than $1,000 per county resident.
– Lottery proceeds ó$1.9 million;
– Total local-option sales taxes ó $22.4 million;
– Total amount of state and federal money for Social Services related programs ó $135 million. These include Medicaid, $117 million and food stamps $14 million.
– Ambulance fees ó $2.2 million;
– Number of arrests ó 5,225;
– Number of 911 calls received ó135,575;
– Number of building permits issued ó 1,586;
– Number of Health Department clients ó 18,450;
– Average number of monthly Medicaid recipients ó 12,381;
– Library attendance for year ó 359,093;
– Library Internet users ó104,196;
– Average daily landfill trips ó 175;
– Number of patrol cars ó 105;
Other information gleaned:
– County’s budget has grown from $77 million in 1998 to $139.6 million 10 years later.
– Final payment set in 2008 on $9.5 million borrowed in 1992 to build the Rowan County Justice Center. The payment is $1.1 million.
