Staff report
Someone tried to break into the Salisbury Mall through a skylight early Thursday morning, but police say they didn’t get in.
According to Steve Whitley, Salisbury Police deputy chief, mall security discovered the broken skylights at opposite ends of the building around 7:30 Thursday morning and called police.
Police first thought it was vandalism but after investigation, Whitley said officers thought someone did try to get in the building.
Whitley said he thought it happened around 2 a.m. because police responded to the mall at that time for an alarm activation.
Police believe the suspect used a ladder from a store around the mall to get on top of the roof. Ladders are common around the mall since many stores have them to make minor repairs.
Whitley said no one has reported any damage or theft inside the mall.
Police are still investigating. They had no suspects Thursday afternoon.
