County commissioners will be taking a bit of a holiday with a very light agenda at their meeting Tuesday.
Commissioner Jim Sides will update the board on the recent N.C. Association of County Commissioners Conference in New Bern.
Sides, Commissioner Tina Hall and County Manager Gary Page attended.
Among the issues Sides plans to discuss are questions concerning Alcoa’s hydroelectric operation on the Yadkin River.
Commissioners previously voted to support a new 50-year federal license for the Yadkin project.
Sides said last week that he now has some questions and concerns that he plans to share with commissioners.
In other matters the board will:
– Consider a rezoning request from Robert Harris for a property at 1680 Long Ferry Road. Harris, who operates a business on an adjacent tract, plans to buy the 5.5-acre parcel. He is seeking rezoning from rural agricultural to commercial business industrial with a conditional-use permit to allow construction of mini-warehouses.
– Consider awarding the management contract for Rowan Transit System.
Clyde Fahnestock, transit system director, has recommended continuing with MV Transit at a cost of $1.64 per mile.
– Approve more than a dozen budget amendments mostly carrying over unspent money from departmental budgets from 2008 to the current 2009 fiscal year.
Among the amendments is an appropriation of $135,000 to cover payment to Turner Business Appraisers, a company that does tax audits for the county. The payment represents 30 percent of the additional taxes from discovered properties at Daimler Trucks and Meridian.
– Consider appointments to various boards including the Rowan County Tourism Development Authority.
The Rowan County Board of Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the J. Newton Cohen Sr. Meeting Room in the Cohen Administrative Offices Building, 130 W. Innes St.
