LEXINGTON (AP) ó Two North Carolina men were killed when their car ran off a road, hit a rock and plunged into High Rock Lake.
The News and Record of Greensboro reports that the state Highway Patrol identified the victims as 22-year-old Nathan Brian Henry Burns and 20-year-old Jason Gares. Both are from Lexington.
The patrol said Burns was driving a 2002 Volkswagen sedan on Holloway Church Road south of Lexington early Monday when it ran off the road to the left, struck a large rock and overturned. The car then slid into High Rock Lake.
Troopers estimated the car was traveling at 75 mph when the crash occurred. The speed limit on that stretch of road is 45 mph. Authorities donít believe alcohol played a role in the crash.
