FAITH ó A trio of young people involved in a single-car accident on Crescent Road outside town Friday night are recovering.
Abigail Anne Skipper, 18, of 2355 Organ Church Road, Rockwell, the driver of the car, was transported by ambulance to Rowan Regional Medical Center where she was treated and released.
Her passengers, Ashley Nicole Sells, 20, of 1148 Riverwood Drive, Salisbury, and Michael Schaefer, 16, of New London, were airlifted to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
As of late Saturday, Sells was in fair condition and Schaefer was in good condition.
Trooper R.T. Coward of the N.C. Highway Patrol said Skipper was charged with reckless driving. He said the young people were traveling west when their car ran off on Crescent Road.
The 1986 Ford Mustang convertible overturned and landed on its roof, trapping the trio inside. Rescue workers brought a wrecker to the scene that lifted the Mustang so the three could be freed.
Several rescue workers at the accident scene said the three were lucky to have survived, though Coward said it’s hard to gauge the severity of an accident by its looks. “I’ve seen worse where people walked away and I’ve seen some not as bad where people died,” he said.
